‘Your message contains invalid Liquid syntax. Merge fields cannot be resolved.'

I have a large campaign that has been active (and accurate) for two years. I would say about one month ago, I began noticing that certain, selective contacts were not receiving their scheduled email due to ‘Your message contains invalid Liquid syntax. Merge fields cannot be resolved.’

But I cannot spot where the invalid code is. I’ve checked all of the email templates, and analyzed all of the fields within the contact and cannot spot an error. I’ve previewed and tested the sequence, and nothing seems wrong. Yet, these emails are not getting delivered. Has anyone encountered this before? Is there a place that the invalid code could be hiding that I haven’t checked?

Do the affected contacts have any data in the social fields? For example, Facebook or LinkedIn?

We were affected by this in the week of September 6th 2020, and had to work around it by removing all of the social data from our contacts.
