How to get the # new subscribers for a specific period

I thought I would get it by using the payments report, filtering just the subscription products, with the parameter “create date” set to the time interval I need, but it says “no results to display” for my search, no matter which date I select, and I know there are new subscribers for that period for sure. I don’t get what I’m doing wrong.
