Import CSV error - any suggestions? 1 Year, 6 Months ago Karma: 0
Hi, this is my first post here.

I'm using the new version of infusion.

I have uploaded about 50,000 records from another database over the last few days with no problem.

However, I have a sub-list of about 60 records from that same database that I'm having a problem with.

When I upload the CSV file I get this error:

ERROR REPORT
The following errors happened on your last step. Please review the error and try again.

Description: Csv to tmp table failed

It's driving me a little crazy since this is from the same db as the other names.

Any clues? I've tried to clean the spreadsheet, look for strange characters. Nothing so far.

Any help is much appreciated.

Thanks,
Kory

The usual causes for that error are:
- strange characters
- columns that do not line up

Since you already checked the first, I suspect the latter.

If, after verifying the columns all line up, you continue to have trouble importing the file, I would recommend that you contact our Support department and let them have a look at your file.

If there is an empty row or column in your file, or if there are two columns that have the same name then the file will not upload.

Also you might just make sure your file is in CSV format. It's something that is simple that can sometimes be overlooked.

I figured it would be a good moment to share how to save as a CSV with Microsoft Office Excel 2007 [the newest one]. Microsoft was kind to bury the ability to save as a CSV, but it's easily done.

When you have verified all your cells are correct, no blank columns or anything else and have proper headings on them; you are ready to save.

Click the Microsoft Office logo, located along the upper left corner.

Mouse over Save As so an additional menu appears. Click Other Formats, then you will be presented with the Windows Save As dialog window.

Click the arrow on the right side of File Type to CSV (Comma delimited). You may need to scroll down to about the middle to find this. Click it and save the file wherever you wish.

Then upload to Infusionsoft via an Import -- and a few moments later you'll be enjoying the benefits of your effort to import your contacts.

As a reminder, from our Acceptable Use Policy -- ALL imports must consist of opted-in contacts and NO purchase/rented lists are permitted at anytime. Clients who violate this are subject to termination.

Also, be certain that you are not trying to "Update Records". If your data does not have a "key" (primary number identifier), then the import will fail and the records not import.

Thank you everyone for your help.

I had blank columns in the CSV file and that was the problem.

The import is working fine now.

Again, I really appreciate the support I received here.
