Email Open & Delivery tracking in campaigns 2 Years, 2 Months ago Karma: 0
I am baffled that I can't tell whether anyone has received or opened any emails that I've sent through my campaigns. Why is this basic "email tracking 101" technology built into our campaigns?

NOTE - The trackable link is a weak alternative. It won't tell you the delivery rate or the open rate.

Actually, you can track open rates through Infusion CRM. Here are the steps.

1. Send a batch email (be sure to send an HTML email since open rates can't be tracked in plain text) and make sure you select "Track Opened Rates"

2. After the batch has completed, go to Marketing -> Marketing Reports -> Email Batch Status

3. Click on "View" next to the batch email you'd like to look at.

4. You'll see a graph called "Delivery Report" showing number of emails bounced, skipped, and delivered.

5. Click on "delivered" and it will open another graph showing "opened", "opened and clicked", or "nothing".

What you describe is true for BATCH emails, but that's not what I'm talking about. I want this functionality in our pre-established CAMPAIGNS, where 99% of our marketing takes place.

Agreed! I'm still not seeing how this helps track open or click rates in campaign emails...? Along these lines: (while viewing a contact) what is the Click History (at the bottom, under the Task tab) section for?

I have to agree that I'm a bit surprised that this feature isn't already something that's been implemented too.

It would be really cool if when viewing each of my contacts that I could see which email pieces that I had sent to them they had opened. (Yes, I realize that if I sent a simple text email I couldn't track it, but most people are sending html emails.)

In determining the "quality" of a lead, if I wanted to make 10 phone calls one day, I'd like to make them to the 10 contacts who had opened the most emails that I had sent to them. And as you continue to market to the same list, knowing which ones consistantly open your emails certainly helps better qualify them.

Or, if you see that a contact hasn't opened up a single email that you've sent to them, it would make for a great reason to call them to check and see why. (wrong email, not interested, blocked by spam filter, etc.)

I agree this is so frustrating for a program of great potential that they have taken the autopilot away from those of us who would like to track open rates. It is a catch 22 with e-mails. You either track your open rate, which is extremely important or you put it on autopilot.

I don't see why it is either/or.

There are other issues as well as these with Infusion and I hope they get all the kinks out soon.

Great suggestions. I think you will all be pleased with the reporting we'll implement in the campaign e-mails. The data I think you need to see with batch and campaign e-mails is:

1. Opens(avail only on HTML e-mails)
2. Clicks
3. Opt-Ins
4. Purchases(If you're driving online sales)
5. Opt-Outs
6. Spam Complaints/Feeback Loops (i.e., an aol user flags your message as junk)

The idea is that you can take a step back and really analyze every batch email and every email in your campaigns to measure impact and effectiveness (or lack of).

Anything I'm missing?

Hi Scott,

Another feature that I think would be great is a way to embed some type of code into an html message that would trigger an alert when the message is opened.

Right now, in one of my campaign emails, I have a tracking link that, when clicked on, not only adds that contact to a "group", but it also sends me an email alert. Once I receive that alert, I wait about 20 minutes and then call the lead. Because I know they just visited my site, I know that my product/service is on their mind at that exact moment and can close more deals.

But sometimes, I don't want them to have to click a tracking link in order for me to receive this alert. By placing a small tracking pixel into the html emails that get sent out, when they open it and your server registers a "hit" on that specific pixel, it could then be used to cause a specific action or trigger to initiate.

How cool would it be to know exactly when each contact opens an email so that you can call them back within a couple of minutes?

Cool eh?

Thanks,

Scott

I'd like to also note that the capability of tracking campaign emails, as I've discussed in the previous threads, would best be done if we didn't have to run a report to gather the data.

Instead, have this data automatically show up as another field in the contact record for who the campaign is linked to.

Thanks,

Scott

Can you give us an update on when you think this new functionality will be complete? The issue at our company is that there's too many steps right now to see certain pieces of data for a batch e-mail.

To see opens and deliverability you have to click on too many pages when all you really need is a dashboard. I'd love to be able to see the following in some kind of a dashboard:

E-mail Date
Subject Line
Template
Quantity Mailed
Success Delivery Rate
Quantity Opened
Open Percentage
Quantity Clicked
Sales (if it happened to be an e-mail for a product offer)
Paid Orders

I used to work for a much larger company that had all of our analytics created in-house and we had an e-commerce mailing report that allowed you to view data on a per e-mail basis.

This is the type of granular analysis that I'd love to see with Infusion Soft, especially since we send up to 30 e-mails a day as part of an auto-responder series that's set up under a campaign. Right now, it's hard to determine which e-mail in our campaign is underperforming when we have to piece together all this data from different reports.

I'm attaching a spreadsheet that I've pieced together to show you an example of what I'd love to see (hopefully others are interested in this kind of data analysis).
