Infusionsoft ecommerce unusable in Australia 3 Months, 2 Weeks ago Karma: 0
Hi,

I'm based in Australia - and over here we have some specific tax laws about the presentation of invoices:

- the words TAX INVOICE must be prominently displayed at the top of the document. Currently the standard Infusionsoft invoice template says INVOICE only.
- The invoice issuing company's business number (ABN) must be displayed in the area of the below the company name and address. There is no facility to add this in Infusionsoft.
- The words "Goods and Service Tax" or GST must be the words used to specify the sales tax added to the invoice value. Currently Infusionsoft only states "Sales Tax".

I raised a support issue to Infusionsoft about this but was told to ask the community - and then the support issue was marked as resolved.

Does anyone know of a method to automatically send out australian tax law compliant invoices from Infusionsoft?

Thanks

Nathan

We have similar issues here in the UK...

Sales Tax is called VAT and the VAT number needs to be displayed.

I have added this to the signature of the invoice - but if you need it in a specific place then you are pretty stuck until InfusionSoft allow invoice template editing.

In the mean time you could use the API to produce PDF invoices for you instead.... These could take the data from an invoicenumber and turn it into a PDF and email it.

Thanks for the info Marc.

I have never seen an ecommerce / cart product that doesnt allow customisation of invoice labels.

If API or custom email development work is required I am hoping that the support team at Infusionsoft will come to the party and provide the code or a sample - since this is a very basic expectation of an ecommerce product.

Cheers

Hello Nathan,

Please go to:

Setup->Application Settings and then the 'Miscellaneous' tab.

Click on 'Invoice'.

I can't test it because I'm in Costa Rica, can't get a payment gateway, etc, and can't produce invoices.

The app claims:
"Customize systemwide Invoice labels.!"

If it's truly "systemwide", it should reflect on your "printed" invoices as well.

Can't tell you more due to my limitations but I thought it may be worth a try.

Best,
Bob

Nathan,

I totally hear you with respect to making our application more International-friendly. Mind you, our lack of features for Australia isn't because we don't care about them. We do, but we tailor our product for US customers primarily.

Because I want to have these ideas addressed so at least our AUS users who already have us can enjoy doing business, can you please email me a list of requirements that you (or others) need for eCommerce?

I will present it to our product management team for review and consideration and possibly development. Clearly, if there's regulatory reasons (e.g, VAT/GST/etc, then we need to prioritize those accordingly.)

It would love to point out that we have an eCommerce section that users can vote on various ideas and suggestions at http://ideas.infusionsoft.com/pages/17360-infusionsoft-e-commerce .

Thanks,
Joseph

Thanks Bob, yes you would expect to be able to customise the invoice labels in that area but sadly not. I believe this is for internal or administrator area labels only. If I’m missing something then it would be great if someone can point it out.

Joe, Thanks - I have sent you an email summarising my understanding of Australian tax office requirements for invoices and also provided a link to the ATO website.

I am dead against voting on something like this in an "ideas center". It may be an idea or suggestion to the infusionsoft team - but to me it is a serious defect in the product. To use an analogy – if I owned a bricks and mortar store and the receipt printer on the till didn’t work I wouldn’t expect to be told to add a suggestion to an ideas center to have it fixed.

Besides there is already appears to be a similar request in the ideas center currently sitting 47th in the ranking: http://ideas.infusionsoft.com/pages/3978-infusionsoft-product-ideas/suggestions/245362-customize-tax-labels Since most Infusionsoft customers are in the US, is an “international” request ever likely to be voted up?

The support case I raised for this issue has been marked as resolved 3 times now. The final resolution being “The reason that this case has been marked as resolved is because Infusionsoft doesn't really have any way at the moment of customizing the invoices for you. Also, I don't know of any code or samples that we provide for the API or custom email development. If that is something you might need help with, you will probably want to contact a CMAC or someone else on the Resource Directory.”

So perhaps for now the resolution is that any Australian (or UK) business considering using Infusionsoft to sell products online needs to budget for a CMAC to do some customization work for them.

Looking forward to hearing how you get on with the product management team Joe.

Cheers

Nathan

Hey Joe I second making the invoices Aussie-friendly.

It's fine to tailor your product to the US, but if you're happy to take money from other countries you should be happy to make the app work for them too.

The bit about "most Infusionsoft customers are in the US" is a self-fullfilling prophecy - as long as the product is uniquely tailored to US-based customers.

Another part of the problem is that the software also assumes that the customers of Infusionsoft customers are US-based.

I've said it before: it's a big world out there...

However, based on a conversation with Jeff Mask, I believe that something is being done in this respect but that a full internationalization is still a little ways out.

This notwithstanding, there are some items that could be done in advance of such a release.

I would be happy (for now) with just a "Country" field in the Outlook tool.

Joe... go scream at them... something... anything...

Two weeks later and this forum post has dropped down the list, my support case has been marked as resolved and I didn't receive a response to the email Mr Manna asked me to send him.

I can only assume that offering a product that meets taxation laws outside of the US is not a priority for Infusionsoft.

Nathan,

With due respect, understand that making significant product changes is not an overnight task. I'm in the midst over acquiring various International user contributions. Recently, we found out our US vs. International breakdown of customers. Roughly, about 15% of our customer base is comprised of users outside the US.

While it may appear these concerns fall on deaf ears, please understand there are many factors involved in changing the focus of the product roadmap. I try to push on people to consider the needs of those who need us most.

I understand and respect your concerns, Nathan. Let's try to work together to accomplish this.

Thanks,
Joe
