Passing variable through an order form... 1 Year ago

What I would like to do is pass a subID variable through an order form link and save it as a field within the db as a "positive" action of completion. Can I do this? (I want this separate to the affiliate module just for generic tracking purposes).
If not, any suggestions how to get variable from my sales page into the order form or InfusionSoft (without having to create an API to do it...I am not ready for that yet!)
