Building a Quality Contact List 7 Months, 3 Weeks ago Karma: 0
What have you done - precisely - to build a quality contact database that you have monetized? PPC? Purchase lists? Social Networking? Print advertising?
Cold calling?

I find a lot of people with a lot of good content / great brains but they don't know how to sell it and to whom.

Have you seen a "turn key" system for generating quality leads in an affordable manner?

Thanks and good selling.

No silver bullet to report here. Coming from a guy who built several businesses making 300 dials and tons of cold contacts a day, I can honestly say that our social networking, sales calls, website optimization efforts, webinars, and newsletter are all making an impact. But as the saying kind of goes, all these strategies work, they just don't work overnight.

Our list keeps growing mostly from our social networking efforts which does require a lot of effort and creativity. But what brings in the most business is making regular contact by phone and in person with the centers of influence, clients and past clients who know us the best. We get a decent number of referrals too. And networking the old fashioned way still makes a difference.

So the best answer I can offer is we are doing all of the above and continuing to expand despite the tight economic times.

Sometimes I think people think that just because they implement a slick new website or email campaign the phone will ring off the hook. It boils down to having a multi-pronged approach and being disciplined and consistent in executing your plan. That is if one even has a plan.

CJONES - Well said. We rely heavily on "drip marketing." A combination of emails, newsletters, radio ads, BNI and more. We focus mostly on building awareness and differentiating ourselves from the myriad of traditional answering services so that when someone has a need we come to mind.

I think the first step is let EVERYONE in your social circle know what your career is so they can begin to help you network.

On the subject of buying leads, I just made something to help you put purchased leads directly into Infusionsoft instead of having to import lists, or manually enter lead info in that you receive by email.

Check out the video!

MMitchell - I want to make it a point to say that Co-Reg is a risky practice since leads may not be aware where their information is going. Ensuring full-disclosure is made on the other party's site is a must. It's also safe to presume that forcing Co-Regs through a Double-Opt-In is a good idea to minimize spam complaints.

Thanks for posting this!

Good point Joe!

I wholeheartedly agree. This is a sleazy practice when done incorrectly. The fact is people are doing it anyways and most learn quickly enough through either spam complaints or charge backs or simply not being able to convert on leads who are angry at being contacted by them to keep disclosure totally transparent.

2 years ago this wasn't the case, today I think most companies are on top of that. The people we've implemented it for had both the lead buyer and the lead seller worried about full disclosure. That's a great sign that quality in this market is up.

I'll be sure to put in an extra emphasis on disclosure for the clients purchasing this solution. Especially since I just like you don't want anyone "peeing in the pool".

On another note Joe, a CMAC was asking me how to get leads posted to Infusionsoft that he captures through seminars or whatever into his CRM without having to enter them manually. I wonder if you guys would want this script, I'll give it to yoiu free of course, or if you could make your own. I think all CMAC's would benefit from not having to go do manual entry for their leads once they've generated them into their system.
